Global Majority Conference App & Website

Last updated: September 11, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the Global Majority Conference ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our app and website (the "Service"), hosted by McMaster University's Centre for Research on Community-Based Engagement (CRCE) and Reframery. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described below.

Information You Provide

When you register for the conference or use certain features, you may provide:

  • Name, email address, pronouns, and affiliation
  • Role (e.g., scholar, practitioner, student, policymaker)
  • Days attending and selected activities or sessions
  • Dinner signup and dietary or accessibility needs
  • Profile details such as bio, research interests, and links (LinkedIn, website)
  • Presentation submissions, including abstracts and uploaded files
  • Travel scholarship applications, including origin and estimated costs
  • Payment information processed by our payment provider (Stripe) — we do not store full card numbers

Account Information

When you create an account, we store your email address and authentication details. If you sign in with Google, Microsoft, or Apple, we receive your name and email from that provider to identify your account. You may delete your account at any time, which removes your profile and associated data.

How We Use Your Information

  • To process your conference registration and confirm attendance
  • To communicate event updates, schedule changes, and reminders
  • To manage session sign-ups, presentations, and scholarships
  • To enable networking with other attendees who have opted in to contact
  • To send administrative emails through our email provider (Gmail)
  • To improve the Service and ensure its security

We do not sell your personal information.

Service Providers

We rely on trusted third-party services to operate the Service. These include the Base44 platform (app hosting and database), Stripe (payments), Google/Microsoft/Apple (sign-in), and Gmail (email delivery). Each provider processes data under their own privacy and security policies, and only receives the information necessary to perform their function.

Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission, access controls, and row-level security that limits who can view your records. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, but we work to protect your data using industry-standard practices.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your registration and related data for as long as needed to administer the conference and fulfill any obligations. After the event, we may keep anonymized records for reporting. You may request deletion of your account and personal data at any time by contacting us; we will remove it within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or reporting purposes.

You can delete your account directly in the app under Profile → Delete Account, or submit a deletion request through our Account Deletion page if you no longer have app access.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Withdraw consent for processing (e.g., opt out of networking visibility)
  • Object to certain uses of your information

To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
